First
Lady Michelle Obama christened her new Instagram account posing with
students from Martin Luther King Middle School in Dakar, Senegal.
"You
all are role models for my daughters, which is why I brought them here
today - so that they could be inspired by you just like I am," she wrote
in a caption.
President
Barack Obama, first lady Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha
kicked off their trip to Africa Wednesday in a flurry of social media,
hoping to attract and engage young Americans.
"I
want young people here in the U.S. to join me on this journey so that
you can engage with – and learn from – the African students I meet and
experience the rich culture and history of each of these countries right
alongside me," First Lady Michelle Obama said in a blog post. "All you
have to do is get online."
Travel updates will be sent out through Obama's Instagram account, @MichelleObama, and her Twitter,@FLOTUS.
The first lady will keep a daily travel journal with photos and video that will be posted on the White House blog.
She will also host a Google+ Hangout June 29 that will connect youth in
South Africa and the U.S. The first lady will use the hashtag #FLOTUSinAfrica for Twitter discussion.
