The former England star was a surprise starter for PSG in his first Champions
League game for three years.
And boss Carlo Ancelotti indicated he did enough to warrant another start in next week’s second leg at the Nou Camp.
Becks delivered a decent performance — although he was a spectator when an average quarter-final turned into an extraordinary one.
Golden Boules’ team were stunned by the man with the Golden Boot — Lionel Messi — who grabbed a first-half opener.
After leaving the pitch in the 70th minute, Beckham watched on as PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled, Xavi scored an 89th-minute penalty to put Barca back in front, only for Blaise Matuidi to make it 2-2 four minutes into stoppage time.
Beckham looks certain to start at the Nou Camp as fellow midfielder Matuidi is suspended.
PSG boss Ancelotti said: “I played Beckham there because of his ability to play forward passes and change the game.
“In the first 30 minutes he was the key as he was playing good football. Next week I want to play like we did in the first 30 minutes for the whole match. To play more attacking — this is our objective in the next leg.
“Personally I don’t think it was a good result. We conceded two goals — the first a gift to
Messi, the second a gift from the referee.”
Beckham, 37, was playing in the Champions League for the first time since he faced former club Manchester United with Milan in 2010.
He said: “It was a good night in the end. I think if we’d put away the chances we had in the first five or 10 minutes, it would have been better for us but I think overall we deserved the draw.
“I feel the same as I did at Milan three years ago. It was great, to be part of an occasion like that. Obviously it is always special.
“I’ve not played in Champions League for a few years so to be back in it, to be playing against a top team and players like that is excellent.
“It’s going to be difficult when we go there but there’s no reason we can’t go there and get a result.” Barca boss Tito Vilanova was back on the bench after returning from the US following treatment for throat cancer.
Messi grabbed his 57th goal of the season with a stunning finish.
But in the move which led to the 38th-minute strike, Beckham was guilty of handing possession back with a header.
But, generally, Becks was a calming influence in his 106th Champions League appearance. With 115 caps for England, he insisted beforehand he has still not given up on pulling on a Three Lions shirt once again.
He was making only his seventh appearance — and third start — after swapping the west coast of America for a western suburb of Paris.
He was withdrawn moments after receiving a caution for kicking Alexis Sanchez.
Ibrahimovic was clearly offside when grabbing the equaliser, Barca got their late penalty after home keeper Salvatore Sirigu brought down Sanchez — although PSG felt that was harsh.
Xavi appeared to have scored the winner until Matuidi rifled in a half-volley through the legs of sub Marc Bartra.
It took a slight deflection but Victor Valdes still fumbled the ball into the net.
Barca’s assistant coach Jordi Roura said: “Everything happened in this match. But Messi is injured and Mascherano is out for between four and six weeks.”
An incredible finale and Beckham will be delighted to be back where it matters.
